I don't have any plans to participate in any readathons this month, but if there are any you're participating in let me know! I'm always game to attempt a readathon, even though I usually fail, haha.
Since I'm usually a mood reader I don't really take my monthly TBRs too seriously. However, last month I was pretty good at sticking to it. There is only one book on my August TBR that's a carry over that I didn't even start in July. I'm hoping that my motivation from July will carry over this new month.
- Games Wizards Play by Diane Duane || Finally started book 10 in the Young Wizards series in July but didn't get a chance to finish it. This will probably be one of my first completed books of the month because I'm already flying through it.
- The Pearl Thief by Elizabeth Wein || The other hold-over from my July TBR. I definitely want to read it this month, I'm in need of a good historical fiction, and I know that's what I'll get with an Elizabeth Wein book
- Sammy Keyes and the Power of Justice Jack by Wendelin Van Draanen || Let's be real here, even though I only have one Sammy Keyes book on my TBR, I'm going to binge the last four books, probably within the first week of the month. They're just so good!
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling || Book five of my favorite series that I'm currently (read: always) re-reading. 'Nuff said.
- The Technologists by Matthew Pearl || This is somewhat of an odd one out. It's not super well-known and is a back list book published a few years ago. I actually picked it up at a used book sale like five years ago when I was at MIT, but never got around to it. It's a historical thriller about the early years of MIT and a secret society of students. I re-read the synopsis toward the end of July and decided I finally needed to pick it up.
- The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang || This book was all over bookstagram a couple months ago and I finally was able to pick it from my local library. I actually started it the last day of July and I'm flying through it. So far it's surprisingly poignant and I have a feeling it's going to be at least a four star read.
- The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal || I saw this on a bunch of BookTube hauls in the last few months and when I found out it's an alternate history featuring a women astronaut I was sold!
- A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman || This is another one I've already started. I checked out the audiobook from my library on a whim. I'd heard a lot of good things about the book but didn't really know what it was about. After one chapter I knew this book was one to be savored not rushed, which is exactly what I'm doing.
- Seafire by Natalie C. Parker || Thanks again to Penguin Random House for providing with an ARC of this book. Looking forward to reading and reviewing it. I haven't read any pirate books so this will be a dip into new waters (pun totally intended).
- Sadie by Courtney Summers || St. Martin's Press reached out to me if I'd be interested in reviewing Courtney Summers' newest book and I was intrigued. I'll also be participating in the blog tour for Sadie, so be on the lookout in early September for my review and blog post.
You know how I said I wasn't going to be overly ambitious? Yeah, I think I failed at that. It didn't seem like that many until I wrote it all out. Ten books is totally doable right? I think so. Let me know down in the comments what you guys are planning on reading in August, or if there are any books I should push to the top of my August TBR!
