Now that we're halfway through the year, it's time to take a look at that TBR shelf and figure out which books I want to get to before 2018 is over.
I've managed to narrow it down to just the books that I currently have on my shelf, so I'm not including any new releases coming out later this year. I've written about my TBR shelf, so I think this is a good opportunity to figure out my priority books. In no particular order the book I definitely want to read before the end of the year are as follows:
- The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss — It took me a year to finish The Name of the Wind, not because it wasn't good but because I kept getting distracted with other books. Long books can be intimidating but it turned out to be one of my favorites so I don't want to put off the sequel for very long.
- The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith — I bought this when it came out back in 2013 and wow, I just realized that was five years ago. I was a little put off from Rowling's non-Harry Potter books after A Casual Vacancy, but I've heard to many things about the Cormoran Strike series that I definitely want to finally pick this one up.
- The Pearl Thief by Elizabeth Wein — I re-read Code Name Verity and then read Rose Under Fire last year and re-fell in love with Wein's writing. Then I never got around to reading The Pearl Thief, the third book in the companion series, which is truly a tragedy. I haven't read any historical fiction in a while, so I'll probably pick this one up soon.
- The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson — I just finished re-reading The Final Empire and have big plans to re-ready the next two books in the original Mistborn trilogy, all so that I can finally read the spin-off trilogy. It's been two years since I read the original trilogy and after re-reading The Final Empire I'm falling in love with the world all over again.
- My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie — Will I ever get sick of the stories of Alexander and Elizabeth Hamilton? Probably not, and I'm not even remotely ashamed. After reading The Hamilton Affair my obsession has been renewed and I'll read anything about them. I'm especially intrigued because this book seems to focus on Elizabeth, which makes me even more excited.
I'm really hoping that by writing up this list, I'll hold myself at least somewhat accountable, ha ha. What books do you want to get to during the second half of the year? Let me know down in the comments!
Code Name Verity is one of my favourite YA historical books ever and I completely forgot that The Pearl Thief came out last year! I should totally pick it up. And The Wise Man's Fear *is* rather long but it's got even more diverse storylines than the first one. I hope you enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved Code Name Verity! I feel like it's such an underrated book in the book community, so I'm always glad to find another fan :)
DeleteI have a couple of other large fantasy books on my immediate TBR but once I finish those, The Wise Man's Fear is next on my list!
